Surgical Nerve Decompression

Nerve decompression surgery is a viable option as a means to control or reduce pain from peripheral neuropathy under certain medical conditions - this includes those with diabetes.  Studies have shown that nerve decompression surgery can be a very useful tool in reducing the amount of pain or numbness seen with neuropathy.  The reduction of the pain and numbness and end result of this type of surgery is very different for each individual.  Nerve conduction surgery may or may not reduce all of the pain and numbness caused by neuropathy, but it may help reduce those symptoms significantly.

Not all patients with painful peripheral neuropathy will qualify medically for these prodecures.  Factors including age, circulation and other co-existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, must all be taken into consideration.  Having diabetes does not necessarily exclude one from having nerve decompression surgery, but there are certain conditions that must be met before doing this.  Taking to Dr. Davis about your situation is extremely important if you are considering these types of procedures.
